The school

In Nantes since 1999

"Nurturing enjoyment, personal growth and a sense of wholeness in body and mind."

Our approach

High standards in the service of enjoyment

Atelier du Mouvement pursues a demanding artistic vision. Yet high standards are never an end in themselves here: they serve the joy of dancing, personal growth and a sense of wholeness in body and mind.

Alexandra Gérard trained at the Moscow Choreographic Institute under Margarita Smirnova, prima ballerina of the Bolshoi, and was later admitted to Carolyn Carlson's atelier. Read her full story.

The school welcomes all ages, from early introduction at four or five right through to adults, and all levels, from the complete beginner to the professional dancer. Classical ballet, modern jazz, street jazz, contemporary: the disciplines speak to one another far more than they compete.

Every pupil dances on stage at least once a year, at the annual show at the Théâtre Capellia. The stage is not a reward set aside for the best: it is part of learning to dance.

The floor

Allegro Harlequin floor

The studio is fitted with a professional ALLEGRO HARLEQUIN dance floor, the same standard used by the Paris and London opera houses. This is no small matter: a good floor absorbs impact, protects the joints and lets you work on landings without injury.

The results

Prizes at FFD competitions

The school has won many prizes at the regional and national competitions of the Fédération Française de Danse, in both classical and modern jazz. Pupils who wish to take part are prepared in a dedicated competition class, by audition.

Support

Exam preparation

Private lessons are available for technical work and exam preparation: the Baccalauréat dance option, PE and teacher-training exams. Also for competitions and wedding choreography. On Saturdays, by appointment.

The company

Mozaïk Ballet

Alexandra Gérard also leads the company Mozaïk Ballet, of which she is artistic director and choreographer.

The company and its junior ensemble, Mozaïk Junior, perform each year alongside the school's pupils at the annual show.
