Dance workshops during the holidays, in Nantes
The holidays are a fine time to progress: a few hours of focused workshop sometimes achieve more than a whole term. What our workshops offer.
Why take a workshop
A workshop is time focused on technique, without the break from one week to the next that always means starting up again. In a few hours at a stretch, you go deeper into a specific point, correct it, anchor what you have learned while it is still fresh. This intensive format sometimes achieves more than a whole term: the progress shows, almost straight away. Very handy for preparing for the new term, getting past a sticking point, treating yourself during the holidays or trying out a discipline before committing for the year.
What our workshops offer
Our technical workshops last 3 hours, in ballet and modern jazz, from age 9 and all levels. The price is 50 €. A short, dense format, designed to work in depth without wearing you out. The workshop is also open to pupils from other schools: a chance to sample the rigour of the Russian school passed on by Alexandra Gérard, even if you dance elsewhere the rest of the year.
Who they are for
For young dancers from age 9 who want to move on faster, for pupils preparing for a competition or an audition, for those who want to consolidate the basics before the new term, and for those who, out of curiosity, want to discover a discipline without committing straight away. The groups stay small, so that everyone is seen, corrected, encouraged. Beginners and experienced dancers alike find what they need: the work adjusts to each person's level.
What you actually work on
Three hours let you take your time: a full warm-up, groundwork at the barre or in travelling exercises, then learning or deepening a sequence. You go back over the details that a weekly lesson does not always have the leisure to address, a placement, a musicality, a quality of movement. It is this continuity, without a break, that makes the workshop so effective: the body keeps the thread from one exercise to the next.
In Nantes, easy to reach
The workshops take place at the studio, rue des Perrines, on the edge of the Doulon and Bottière districts, on the Allegro Harlequin floor that protects the joints. It is a stone's throw from the number 1 tram and the 12 and 87 buses. Convenient during the holidays, with no long journeys to organise: just the thing for slotting a morning or an afternoon of dance into a freer week.
A springboard into the year, or simply a wish
A workshop can be many things depending on who takes it. For a young dancer already enrolled for the year, it is a boost, a chance to work on a sticking point. For a family hesitating to commit, it is a welcome trial run: three hours to get a clear idea of a discipline, without signing up for the season. And for a pupil coming from elsewhere, it is a breath of fresh air, another way of working, another look at their dancing. None of these reasons is better than another, all are welcome.
How to get ready
Nothing complicated: clothing suited to the discipline chosen, something to keep hydrated, and the will to work for three hours. A workshop takes a little stamina, so it is best to arrive rested and to have eaten lightly beforehand. For the rest, let yourself be carried along: the teacher leads the group, from the first warm-up to the last sequence, making sure everyone moves on at their own pace.
